Mike Kirke: designer by day, international art thief at heart

Meet our "lucky, hardworking, inquisitive" Product Designer, Mike Kirke. And dare we add, the face that disperses all clouds with his dazzling smile.

1. When did you decide to become a designer and why?

I was going to write something cheesy like ‘I didn’t choose design…design chose me’ haha. But in all honesty, I wanted to become a Designer when I realised ‘International Art Thief’ wasn’t a ‘real’ job.
Really, Art and Design were the only subjects in school I absolutely loved. The creative process of design became an obsession, and I knew fairly early on in my life I wanted to design products.

2. What do you do at Design Reality?

I am a Product Designer at DR.
My role is to help clients develop, evolve and explore their ideas into a more realised form.
From concept sketching to 3D CAD, this development process is about creating a visual and open dialogue with the client and potential user, integrating a multitude of tools and methodologies.

3. What do you most like about your role?

Be it with a team or on an individual basis, there is no better feeling than seeing something you’ve created come to life. Being part of a world-leading design team that allows you to develop and flex your creative freedom is something any young designer would dream of, and we have that here at DR.

4. Describe yourself in 3 words.

5. Three people you would invite to dinner (they can be dead or alive).
